Part 8

Looking back at you preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product

Overall from our original task i believe i have made a significant move forward since our original piece. I believe that the original piece in which we made was successful in communicating with the intended dark horrific audience and this came across well through the scene organised. The research through this task i believe was not to an extremely high standard although it was very well planned and thought out and made sure that it was an idea in which we all enjoyed. I believe that we did not use the technology to its full, this is because we used imovie in which is the more basic form of film editing, this i believe shows we did not make full use of the technology available to us unlike the full product. I believe the less successful part was the research stage of this we could have researched this more in which would have resulted in meeting the attended audience more. We improved on most aspects of the title sequence by planning through it greater and researching much much more into other title sequences and the audiences, and finally we used much more advanced technology through creating our title sequence in the editing stage which therefore overall improved the finished product in which look overall more professional.

Part 7

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this production?

A key decision in which we made was to do with the editing process and the use of final cut pro instead of imovie. We made this decision just before the editing process was started after the filming had taken place. We choose to use final cut pro because it is of a more professional standard of technology compared to imovie which is possibly the most basic form of movie editing, although final cut pro is harder to use the final product is of better quality and more aesthetically pleasing then such imovie material, this was used in the post production stage. We also made a decision of using a camcorder in which uses a mini DV tape rather that a digital camera, this is mainly because although it is bigger and harder to transport around it overall leaves us with a better quality film that any digital camera quality can give, also we used the apple macs throughout the planning and editing stages of our production for this we had no option but to use the makes as there was no other way in which we may have been able to edit the sequence. I personally have learnt some basic editing skills in which i did not know and that planning is possibly the most important stage of any production, this is because we had some slight issues in the planning so i have learnt to plan out fully is the best in which you can do.

Part 6

How did you attract/address your audience?

Do you think you have reached your target audience?

I personally believe that we have met our target audience very well, although we could have addressed some issues in which i believe would of helped to reach are intended target audience better by making the opening credits possibly black an white.

What did you include when planning your production that you thought would appeal to your audience?

Through the planning stage we decided that the possible inclusion of a child actor would increase the appeal of the movie by the possible shock element in which people may not expect a child to be involved in a movie. Also the use of a cliff hanger at the end was used to keep the viewer wanting more.

Feedback

The feedback was overall from a mixed point of view some believed the production to be well prepared and worked other believed that some areas of our production did not work.

Positives

·     Good use of sound
·        Good location
·        Good enigmas
·        Good Typography

Negative

·        Crows go on to long
·        Bad Soundtrack

What could be improved

I believe that the lighting, soundtrack and more shots needed could be improvements made to the title sequence.

Part 5

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Camera, angles, shot movement and position

Through our opening title sequence we have many things in which would influence a particular social group in which may watch the title sequence. firstly we start with a long shot of London, this will immediately make it more likely for British/English people more likely to watch such a sequence, this is because American prefer to watch movies from there own familiar surrounding. Also through the dark moody colours from the cloudy and cold weather from the day would affect a particular social group making feel more nervous and worried of might happen this would attract a social group in which are more into the darker of films with shocking scenes throughout.

Editing

The editing in which we have done would attract a social group in which are into the high paced action movies as well as through showing the running past of the person would attract such groups in which are interested in the spy genre of movie because again as most spy movies will do it makes you think what is going on, this is done by the editing by keeping all shots fast, lively and fluid quickly going through.

Sound

The sound we believe will also attract people in which are into the high action pumped up films, although i do believe that it may have been able to appeal to them more by it being even more of an action packed and of a even faster pace although it does fit in with are title sequence some what. Also the other sound effect in which we used of the crows had a significant effect on the scene, this will set the scene while also making it slightly scary and as crows are seen more as a bird in which you associate withing a horror movie, this i actually believe would be associated more with people interested in scary horror genre of movie.

Typography

Typography deffinatly does represent the spy social groups, this is because the main title looks as if there trying to hide something away from the viewer in which a spy would do in hiding them self away from every one. also with the typewriter font gives the sense of professionalism as a letter would be written to someone like a spy or someone involved with some form of secret organisation, this will not greatly interest a viewer but just give subtle hints on the movies theme.

Expressionism

The lighting through this title sequence i believe personally would intrege viewers of more of a horror based audience, i believe this to be because the lighting is dark and disturbing like you would expect from such horror movies, this is an issue i believe we should have addressed prior to this stage.

Part 4

In What way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Narrative

The created opening title sequence of our product is very successful in making the professional look of what you may expect from real media products, because of it showing what has happened in like a flash back form of what they will see through the full movie version in which we may make, it also gives a snap shot in to a past age, this may challenge the original convention of a title sequence as you may not expect to be shown in as great a detail of what we show in the beginning of movie as you see in ours. Our sequence uses the enigma code early on through the sequence making the viewer have to think straight away about whats happened this challenges the viewer as they might just want the action to start where as we start them of by making the viewer think through the opening starting them off by dragging them in.

Genre

Through the opening there may be some difficulty as you are immediately made unsure of what is going on but through the use of sound and the sneaky nature of the person in the background in which you see it becomes quickly apparent the genre of the movie and then shows that the immediate thinking that the beginning makes them fits in perfectly with the spy theme of the sequence.

Camera, angles, shot movements and positions

The main camera angle used is a side shot of scenes such as the chase scene, we believed this to be affective because it shows the good action movement showing the viewer everything in which they would need to see throughout a chase scene, although i do believe we may have been able to make it look more professional by a use of more extensive shot types.

Editing

The editing was used successfully as it made the scene flow and make sense to the viewer because if it was not edited properly it would have been a muddled mess in which professionals would not have so this compares nicely to the real media products.

Typography

I believe strongly that the Typography works very well thorough the sequence making it look like it is a completly professional as if it was a real production piece. This doesn't challenge a professional piece at all but works with our Genre very well. This is because i believe the title sequence itself seems as if there something to hide in which a spy might have, this works as a professional production because all productions in themselves there typography will give hints on the theme of which the film may undertake.

Sound

Personally i believe that the sound also does not challenge the actual production piece, this is because it attempts to set the pace of the movie while also setting a correct tone for the movie to undertake. Although personally i do not believe that the chosen sound through the scene does work fully in this because i still believe it to be to slow in working to set the pace and to light hearted in setting the tone for the film.

Part 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

We researched through many film distributors and decided overall that we would choose universal as our main distributor, although there was others such as Newline Cinema and Touchstone. We choose universal because alot of films in which they distribute are mostly to our genre such as the Bourne series in which also would provide help as it is towards the same target audience age group as we originally decided for the opening sequence.

Part 2

Who would be the target audience for your product?

For our product i believe that the target audience a spy/action genre of movie would be more suited to the male audience, i believe this to be because this it what i personally and others would usually associate to be the favorite genre of in which men would watch, they would usually be of a lively high paced lifestyle because that is of what our movie is like. I believe that an age group of 15 - 21 would be more likely in which to watch the clip and become intreeged in the movie, i believe this to be because through asking people of such age groups that i know of the movie what they believed of the idea in which my group had and this is the age group in which came up. Personally before the production i researched using my own personal feelings as well as asking in which other thought of the idea in which my group had of the sequence idea and used such research as a guideline to make improvement to the idea.

Evauluation .... Part 1

Part 1 - Brief

Within my group we decided that we would be creating an opening title sequence within the Spy/Thriller genre in which we decided from our original production brief, and I believe from our original brief that we did stick to this very well throughout the whole production of our sticking to the originally planned genre and brief planning. The title sequence begins with a shot of London through the trees in which is used to provide the viewer with the woodland setting in which is key to our scene whilst also showing an urban setting in which some scenes may take part in. We also stick to the enigma code throughout this scene by the running past of an obvious person making the viewer unsure of what is going on and thinking of what it may be. It also then goes onto meet the action sub genre through a small fight scene in which we had although we could have adapted this scene more with further shots, this became important to our scene because it caters for all in which the viewer may want from a spy/action movie by showing all in which they expect making them more likely to watch further through the movie.

Final Final Piece

This is the finished product with the edits made in which we were advised to make
